Hi

I’m Jane and I am Director of Bournemouth & District Samaritans and a listening volunteer.

We are based in Durrant Road in a pleasant house which provides a base for over 100 volunteers, some of whom are listening volunteers and some of whom are support volunteers. The Bournemouth branch of Samaritans has been in the town for almost 50 years.

Not only do we offer support by telephone but we also offer support by e-mail, text and see callers in the branch in a safe and welcoming room. We also go to Dorchester Prison originally to support prisoners but now to train and support listeners.

Bournemouth & District Samaritans have a strong sense of community and regularly visit schools, homes for the elderly and can often be seen at local carnivals and events. We also give talks about Samaritans to a wide range of organisations.

As a charity we are entirely self funded and rely on donations to enable us to continue to support the community, which is helped by our shop which is located at the Lansdowne end of Old Christchurch Road.
